For our monthly presentation, Justin, AE2L, will provide an overview and keen insight on the vanity callsign application process with plenty of hints, tricks, and suggestions to get you the vanity callsign you want.

Three Nets?

Time to fire up your DStar radios again! The XRF223 reflector is back up and better than ever. Be sure to join us Monday evening at 8:30PM on XRF223B for the PRA Monday night digital net. We discuss all things digital from DStar, DMR, CW, PSK, JT, FT. But, that is not all!

Immediately following the digital net on Monday, at 9:00PM join us on 75 Meters at 3.823 for the PRA 75 Meter Net. This is a result for the many requests we had for a 75 Meter net, so fire up your amps and get your HF Radios ready.

Our analog net is alive and healthy! Be sure to join us on the W0CFI repeater, 448.675 (minus offset), 100Hz tone, at 8:00PM this Tuesday. This is a great net to get caught up on the activities of the PRA, and hear Amateur Radio Newsline. Also, we want your participation and comments throughout the net…new upgrade, new radio, question about ham radio…this is the place to get very involved.

We look forward to hearing you Monday and Tuesday night!

Net Triple Play

casting-net_noaa_1

Couple of updates and changes to our Monday Digital Net. As you may have noticed, we are experiencing difficulties in the XRF223 Reflector. For this Monday, we are moving our Digital Net to our DMR repeater, 445.075 (minus offset), Color Code 1, Time Slot 2. As a reminder, this net will begin at 8:30PM this Monday.

Lastly, we have had many requests from members for a 75 meter net, so here you go. The net will start the week of October 9th and run through the week of April 9th. We need your input on the day of the week and time. Right now the suggestions have all been for Monday or Tuesday nights, at 9:15 or 9:30pm. Most suggestions have not been positive for weekend time-slots. Frequency suggestions? 3.823; 3.825; 3.900 ????

Please send a short e-mail to AC5S at pbrowncolorado AT gmail.com with your suggestions. Our informal rag-chew sessions on 75 meters lately have lasted about 30-45 minutes so I would expect the net to go about that long or longer as long as people are on the air. There will be no “net controller” or announcements; someone will call for check-ins, then we go to a round-table. Everyone will need to keep track of their position.

Please let Paul know your thoughts by the end of the day on October 2nd so we can make the announcement on the date and time of the new net, on the Tuesday night analog net on October 3rd. We will also put out another e-mail blast when we get a firmed up day and time.

Continue to Play Radio, Have Fun, and Keep the Squelch Loose!

Be sure to join your PRA for an action packed week!

Starting Monday, 9/18, at 8:30PM, the PRA will hold its digital net on XRF223B. There is plenty of conversations from everything digital to the latest projects and devices… from DStar / DMR / Fusion / Brandmeister / Hotspots, and even CW. This can be accessed via your local hotspot. Also, many have linked via the W0CDS 2M repeater as well. Considering our K0PRA repeater is being relocated, using the W0CDS 2M side would be best (please follow common/courteous practice when linking).

On Tuesday evening, 9/19, starting promptly at 7:00PM, the PRA will hold its September meeting in Exhibit Hall A of the Douglas County Library on Mainstreet in Parker. This is an important meeting as we will be conducting our elections for 2018/2019 leadership positions. As a reminder, if you are unable to attend Tuesday evenings meeting, your proxy vote is due to Brandon Johnson by 12:00 NOON Tuesday, 9/19 so as to be counted for the live vote Tuesday evening.

The election is not the only order of business Tuesday night. We will also be holding two separate presentations; first is the antenna launcher kit build. Those that signed up for the antenna launcher program will be expected to pay $40 for the all the components that were acquired for you, pre-cut. Second, if you did not sign up for the antenna launcher kit build, we will be having a show-and-tell night. Have a new piece of gear? Want to show off your newest mobile hotspot? Care to show off your recent contest awards or new certificate? You’ve got bragging rights and we want to hear about it.

As always, we look forward to seeing you and thank you for your support of the Parker Radio Association.

Field Day 2017 – The Best Yet!

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

A new venue for the PRA as we ventured out near Woodland Park to set up and operate for the 2017 ARRL Field Day.  The weather was perfect, the campground did not disappoint with its amenities and options away from radio, such as trout fishing, hiking, or mountain bike riding.

The goal was quickly established…500 QSO’s, sideband voice, as 2A.  Not only did the team smash that goal in the early hours of Sunday morning, but we recorded 557 sideband voice contacts.  This smashed not only the goal, but the previous PRA QSO tally in 2015 by nearly 50%.

Veteran and rookie ham alike all walked away from Field Day learning something new; whether it was a new antenna design, navigation in a pileup, electrical engineering, QRP rigs, solar panel setup, antenna setup for next year, or a new joke to tell the family…this was a memorable weekend for ALL that participated.  No matter if you were there for an hour or the entire weekend, we proved that amateur radio communication is reliable in less than ideal conditions; especially without commercial power.  Even other campers came by and were impressed with the setup and were eager to show their children, “yes, communication around the world is possible without the internet…LOOK!”

The PRA’s newly acquired Icom IC-7300 performed flawlessly and became the new candy that a lot of members said would be their next purchase.  Plans are already underway for Field Day 2018 and we look forward to continuing the tradition and keeping the squelch loose.
