AllStar System
What is AllStar? In simplest terms, it’s a way to connect analog repeaters and/or radios over the Internet, regardless of their location. AllStar is an old phone technology of Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) based on the open-source Asterisk PBX, a powerful system capable of controlling one or more radios. It provides linking of these radio “NODES” to other systems of similar construction anywhere in the world via VoIP.
Each of our repeaters are part of the AllStar Linked Repeater System for Parker Radio Association. Our four analog repeaters have an AllStar encoding box with an internet connection. Each of these repeaters will have a NODE number (think of this as the address to the repeater).
The HUB of the PRA AllStar System lives in the cloud with a NODE number of 410460. Our AllStar Linked System runs in a “hub and spoke” model where the primary spokes are permanent links to the HUB.
The primary and permanently linked spokes are: Mestaa’ėhehe Mountain or as we call it by its old name of ‘Squaw Mountain’ is the primary PRA repeater (145.250Mhz) and has a node number of 410463. The Parker North Repeater (449.425Mhz) has a node number of 29225. The Elbert Repeater (448.775Mhz) has a node number of 55889. We also have a 900Mhz repeater near Southlands in Aurora (927.925Mhz) with a node number of 554110.
If you look at the PRA Hub bubble chart below you may also see additional spokes to the HUB. These will be Ham Operators linking into AllStar NODE 410460 via a hotspot, EchoLink, or RepeaterPhone (app on a cell phone) accessing the HUB from an internet connection. These additional spokes are temporary and established by each Ham Radio Operator.
The PRA AllStar Hub system only allows inbound connections to the hub at 410460 and there is NO redirecting or linking to other Nodes or Systems. This is done to keep the integrity of our Analog Systems for local use both daily and in emergency communication needs. Should a Ham Radio Operator want to link into other systems or nodes we encourage them to do so via their own hot spot, Echolink or RepeaterPhone directly without tying up our PRA Analog System.
