PRA #hamradio Tip of the Week: Use Headphones During Noisy ConditionsWhen operating in a noisy environment or during weak signal conditions, use headphones to help filter out background noise and focus on the communication.Explanation: Headphones can greatly improve your ability to hear faint signals that might be lost in ambient noise or static. They are especially useful in Field Day events, contests, or emergency operations where the environment can be chaotic.
PRA #hamradio Tip of the Week: Learn the Art of Pacing in ConversationsGive brief pauses between transmissions to allow others to break in if needed.Explanation: Leaving small gaps in your conversation allows other stations to join, ask questions, or report urgent traffic. This is important in nets, emergency communications, and general good operating practice, ensuring smoother flow of information and collaboration.
PRA Tip of the Week: Label Your CablesUse color-coded or labeled tags on your coaxial and power cables for quick identification.Explanation: When working with multiple radios, antennas, and power supplies, it's easy for cables to get mixed up. Labeling each cable can help you quickly troubleshoot or rearrange equipment without confusion. This is especially helpful during field operations or when setting up multiple stations.
PRA Tip of the Week: Learn and Practice Proper Net EtiquetteAlways listen before transmitting and wait for the net control operator to recognize you before speaking.Explanation:In formal nets, especially emergency or traffic nets, the net control operator manages all transmissions. Waiting for permission ensures the net runs smoothly and prevents unnecessary interruptions. Clear communication and patience are key to an effective net.
Please be sure to program your radios accordingly! The PRA has a new coordinated repeater pair that is on the air!The PRA tech team, today consisting of Dirk and his co-worker Mike, have successfully reprogrammed the existing Motorola MTR-2000 repeater to the new PRA coordinated frequency pair. We have now decommissioned the old "shared" pair and the VHF Squaw repeater is now on the frequency listed below. Please reprogram all of your radios to the new frequency. If anyone needs any help, please send an email to board@parkerradio.org and we will get someone with you ASAP. Next step will be to replace the MTR-2000 repeater with our new Motorola 5700 repeater and our new control system. This will be transparent to everyone, however we will announce the swap before it happens as the system will be down for an hour or so. This should happen within the next 4-8 weeks. Lastly, GET ON THE AIR, and remember the Saturday net will be on the new frequency!!!
