May Meeting Follow-Up

20140520_193520-1With the crazy weather in the area the past few weeks, many members of the Parker Radio Association were able to put their learned storm spotting skills to task.

If our trend of presentations holds true, then the weather for the balance of the summer should give us plenty of reason to dust off our hiking boots, check our portable gear, and become the reason to start pile-ups.  We were so fortunate to have Jerry, KD0BIK, give an awesome presentation on Summits-on-the-Air (SOTA). Jerry shared with us some of the great adventures he has had and encouraged us to incorporate our great hobby into an outdoor and fun physical activity.  Many of us discussed the possibilities of the PRA participating in a SOTA event in the very near future.  If you happened to miss Jerry’s presentation, have no fear, you can follow Jerry’s SOTA activities here: http://kd0bik.com/sota/ .

On the business side of our meeting, we several topics and had great discussions and actions:

– Procurement of Club Liability Insurance.

– Reviewed ARRL Club Commission Program for individual ARRL renewals/new members.

– New Club website launched and operational at tmp.k0scl.com

– Solicited Club logo suggestions.

– April VE Testing Follow-Up and Turnout.

– Field Day

– D-Star Repeater Update.

– Membership growth.

– June Program on Basics of D-Star

Also, keep an eye out to your email for a blasts on the ARRL Commission program details as well as Field Day.  If you are interested in participating in Field Day, please be sure to respond to this blast.  We are going to have an informal breakfast meeting on June 7th. More details to follow on times and location.

With such an active group that has great diversity and ideas, be sure to share the news of the Parker Radio Association.

Remember, play radio, have fun, and keep the squelch loose.
